Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi, I am working on a GH definition.  I have a series of curved derived from a sets of points intersecting with planes. When I tried to offset those intersection curves using one uniformed vector, somehow offset curves seem to randomly go to opposite directions. See the green lines in the photo. What is the issue and can anyone help?

Thank you so much!

Yes, I have experienced similar problems. Offset component is seriously flawed - I think there is quite a few (old) threads already, but nothing has been done so far. So far nobody was able to come up with an explaination why it sometimes reverses direction.

Your best bet is to offset in both directions and then check for the one you want. In your case you can check which on is above 0 in Z. Then you can use dispatch to only get the correct ones. Its one way to make sure.

I couldn´t get the definition to malfunction like your example. weird...

Yeah its a strange one. Sometimes simply recomputing solves/breaks it. There really doesnt seem to be any logic to it.

I just came across a Plugin for Rhino/GH called Clipper, which has an Offset Polylines component. It seems pretty solid so far, although inner offsets still dont produce perfect results.
