Did you install Karamba with Administrator rights? After installing Karamba there should be three new files on your computer: 'karamba.dll' and 'libiomp5md.dll' in the 'Grasshopper'-folder and 'Karamba.gha' in the 'Components'-folder of Grasshopper. You should check whether that's the case.
I did now some preliminary tests with Karamba and GH 0.8.004 on a XP-machine and did not encounter any problems.
