"i think you u can contour using the general shape of the object, so instead of just contour straight up down or left right, you set up to take sections following the perpendicular vectors of the shape. Maybe.? "

"After you make the surface, i think you can turn it in to a mesh using weaver-bird (plugin) to remake the mesh. Not sure, havn't tried it. "
