Hi Nathan,   you'll need to install the latest Microsoft C++ runtimes. Please see the 0.8.0011 release page for details:   http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/grasshopper-080011-available   -- David…

Unable to load Grasshopper on Rhino Evaluation?

I just downloaded the Rhino trial from Mcneel (SR9) and the latest version of grasshopper from the link above (0.8.0013). I'm running Windows 7 and when I install grasshopper it says installed successfully but when I type grasshopper in the command bar in Rhino I get an error (see images).  …See More

Presumably you're using IE. IE thinks the file is an XML document so it changes the extension to ".xml" when you try to save it. All you need to do is save as or rename the extension to ".ghx" and it will work.

hello! this discussion accompanies something i am trying to do, but i can't download the file. can someone tell me how to do it? (i tried "save target as"....got unreadable file), then straight downloading got me a pile of…

It would need to be scripted, but here's a start: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/objdxfiges3ds-slider-export

Output lines to Illustrator?

So I have finally (almost) completed my first project in GH! Now I just need some help to make some pretty 'process' drawings for my portfolio. With the help of the community here, I've made a simple definition (attached) that draws pseudo random, gem-like shapes. I've then used a simple scoring/folding process to turn them into jewelry from sheet silver.I've only made 2 prototypes, and just output them as .bmp's and traced over them in illustrator for my templates.I would however, like to be…See More

Did you simply mean even as in non-gradient? So, a regular random field? The term 'even random' has puzzled me.

Thanks Andrew. Could you explain what you mean by an 'even field of random points'? Just points along a grid of a defined size? The rest seems to make a surprising amount of sense though. Looking forward to giving this a shot. N

One simple approach would be to first create an even field of random points and then pass the one of the random generators through a graph mapper and adjust the curve to cause more of the points to fall to one end of the field. Here's another,…

gradient of points

Hello all.I took a break from grasshopper and now along with hanging my head in shame at losing the little knowledge I had, I am struggling at figuring out what the best way to begin drawing a definition for this project.I am trying to create a somewhat 'randomized' gradient of points contained in a rectangle, the top of the rectangle having very few points, and the bottom with the most density.I have been playing around with attractor points from curves, but that hasn't gotten me very far.I'm…See More

ah, just tried it on another machine.. you have to set the multi-dimensional slider X domain to a higher "to" value... i.e. 0.0 To 50.0! the "Y" value modifies the random seed! And also, I noticed that through the duplicate,…

Interesting point, thanks for the suggestion. I will read up and experiment with the jitter function, sounds promising.

Maybe what you want is a series {0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, . . . } that is then "jittered" using the jitter component {1.0, 0.5, 3.5, 0.0, . . .} and then culled with a certain number of culls in a random pattern {T, F, F, T, F, T, F, F, . .…

So true, this is an amazing community! I seem to have hit a block at the 'duplicate data' component in your example. It is not showing any output. The only personal setback I have found with Suryash's method thus far (and yours too…

cool, let me know how it goes! I'll have to try out Suryansh' version, too - it's so super cool having many (hopeful!!) solutions to problems, am always learning so much!

Thank you, I managed to get that to work for me.

It is part of a project I did a few years ago, not anything with grasshopper. It is part of a geodesic dome. I have actually been meaning to work on a GH version, but I have not yet gotten around to it.
