Slicing a model in Grasshopper?

Is it possible to slice through a model in Grasshopper. I know of the wirecut tool in Rhino. This is a great tool but only works on a single polysurface at a time. Also there is the section tools for…Continue

Tensile Structure

Hi, I'm looking for some guidance on modelling a tensile fabric roof. It will be quite a complex roof. I've looked at RhinoMembrane but it's a bit too pricey. I've searched all over the forums and…Continue

Getting numbers from Kangaroo

Hi,Is it possible to get max. displacement figures out of the Kangaroo engine in Grasshopper? I want to optimise a structure using Galapagos and Kangaroo. I know this was possible in Karamba but…Continue

"I haven't tested this on a complex form but I think this is more in line with what you're looking for.   Chris"

"Hi Chris,   Thanks for the reply. However I'm not looking to generate 2d section curves. I wish to cut a model and retain one portion. Like cutting an orange with a knife and throwing half away.   The first two images are generated…"

"This illustrates a method that might work for you.  The geometry here is a box within a box and a sphere partially within a box.  You could create multiple sections by using a series component input or a list input in place of the slider…"

Slicing a model in Grasshopper?

Is it possible to slice through a model in Grasshopper. I know of the wirecut tool in Rhino. This is a great tool but only works on a single polysurface at a time. Also there is the section tools for Rhino which are great for producing 2d and 3d drawings but there is no "Bake" type feature that allows exporting the cut geometry. When you try to export you just get the whole model. Is there any way of slicing through a group or a selection of objects in grasshopper or a plugin which is akin to…See More

"Nice example - thanks for sharing Matt.   Also - If you want to have more control over the boundary curves, I suggest maybe giving those edges different spring properties (stiffer, and non-zero rest length). Here's an example of this :"

Tensile Structure

Hi, I'm looking for some guidance on modelling a tensile fabric roof. It will be quite a complex roof. I've looked at RhinoMembrane but it's a bit too pricey. I've searched all over the forums and Google and found a few other similar questions. I've also checked the official pages for GeometryGym and Kangaroo but I think I'm looking in the wrong places as I can't find any detailed examples or videos that show the definitions. Here's a example of the thing I want to acheive: I created some…See More

An Idea for the Forum

I have an idea for a possible new forum area. I spend quite a while over at  Ronen Bekerman which is a fantastic resource for rendering. They have an area on the forum there where somebody submits a photograph and the community try to produce a rendered image which best imitates the geometry, materials and lighting. They usually show their working along the way. It could be done in a competitive way but mostly it's just for fun and is…See More

"Hi Raymond,   If you know the xyz coordinates you can do it this way. Use [SurfaceCP] to project your point onto the surface then [EvalSurface] at the point.   Matt.     "
