Lighting, materials and rendering in Vray for Rhino

Ok so this doesn't have to do with grasshopper really, but I'm having issues just making simple renders of scenes. When I add lights they appear in the default rhino renderer, but then when i turn on…Continue

How do you keep, edit, render, etc surfaces in rhino once you close grasshopper?

I made a surface in rhino, adjusted it a bit and then made a polygons extrude from a grid applied onto the curved surface in grasshopper. When it was all said and done i clicked on the shapes created…Continue

yeah i unticked default lights... i dunno, it seems lik eosmetimes i can get something different to happen but it never looks good... always some faded image and not very pretty... applying a bitmap is easy enough but when it comes to reflection,…

I downloaded it, I got the same as Danny mentioned, there are 6 copies of the surface, so was Baked 5 times I guess, but no problem selecting it or moving it etc.

I've opened your file and had a look. I can select your surface without any problems and it looks as if you baked it about five times. As an experiment see if you can use the SelSrf command to select them. You other geometry are poly-surfaces…

Hi Ksenia, On the Systems Tab of the VRay Options there are some tick boxes that might sort this problem, make sure default lights is un-ticked. Unfortunately I haven't got Vray at home but I could look it up tomorrow when I get to work (in…

Lighting, materials and rendering in Vray for Rhino

Ok so this doesn't have to do with grasshopper really, but I'm having issues just making simple renders of scenes. When I add lights they appear in the default rhino renderer, but then when i turn on vray shadows just seem to go in one place (I'm assuming that's some default, sky light). I kept messing around with settings but I keep having the same problem... and often things just seem to get duller if any change comes at all... Making a nice metal material seems to be impossible. I tried to…See More

This sounds like there must then be a problem in Rhino, I have never seen Grasshopper cause problems with rhino surfaces. Can you add a picture or better illustration?

To keep grasshopper realtime, the objects in grasshopper do not exist in Rhino normally. If you select the final components that draw the object. Then hit the bake command (the egg icon). This will bake the objects into Rhino.

How do you keep, edit, render, etc surfaces in rhino once you close grasshopper?

I made a surface in rhino, adjusted it a bit and then made a polygons extrude from a grid applied onto the curved surface in grasshopper. When it was all said and done i clicked on the shapes created from the extruded polygons in grasshopper and clicked bake and they appeared as real objects in rhino...however, the same cannot be said for the original surface I made. I can't seem to click on it in rhino and when i close grasshopper the surface disappears. I try to bake it too but it doesn't do…See More
