"Dear Aryan, yes, normally IBC codes are used in Dubai. I am not too familiar with the IBC load combinations but are you sure that the parital safety factor for wind is unity at the ultimate limit state? Do you consider the first eigenfrequency and…"

"Dear Aryan, I think in the early stage of design of a concrete structure you should not rely too much on the local utilization of some elements since you can control it by placing reinforcement there. The approximate amount of reinforcement would be…"

Request for a reinforced concrete structure example file

Dear All, I'm working on simulation of a RC structure in Karamba but I'm not sure if I'm making it in a proper way. Since it's a tall building with so many components in grasshopper file I think attaching its file to this message won't help cause it may be very time-taking for you to check it out. I would appreciate it if you could please upload a Karamba example file of an entirely reinforced concrete structure. It would be great if it could include different types of RC elements (columns,…See More

"Dear Clemens, Many thanks for your reply. Actually in my case, the utilization output shows large numbers (average about 0.2, some nodes more than 0.5 and in rare cases even more..) What are the very main items to be checked in Karamba, to see if a…"

karamba replied to Aryan Shahabian's discussion Concrete structure- Shell Utilization in the group Karamba
"Dear Aryan, the acceptable range of the utilization computed for reinforced concrete (RC) shells depends on whether these are susceptible to buckling or not. RC shells can be quite sensitive to buckling: cracking decreases the stiffness of the cross…"

Concrete structure- Shell Utilization

Dear All,Using "Utilization Component" for shells, a list of numbers are produced as "util" output. I read in the previous discussions that utilization for shells represents the ratio between the Von Mises Stress and yield stress. I would appreciate if you could explain what range of the ratio is usually acceptable for shells in a (reinforced-) concrete structure.Best,ASee More

karamba replied to Aryan Shahabian's discussion Load Visualization in the group Karamba
"Dear Aryan, the ModelView-component lets you visualize loads. In the submenu 'Display Scales' you can set the scaling factor for the load symbols and enable/disable the loads display. For details see the manual. Best, Clemens"

Load Visualization

Dear all,Could you please let me know how it is possible to visually see the loads applied on shells? I'm applying some mesh loads from different angles on shells, using global/global project/local, and I need to see if the loads are applied in the proper directions, but I couldn't find a preview of the loads. Is it possible to see them as arrows/vectors or something visual on the screen? Best,ASee More

Abraham Yezioro replied to Aryan Shahabian's discussion Thick wall partly penetrating a zone in the group Ladybug + Honeybee
"Aryan, Indeed you need to divide this mass in two. The external part should be defined as a shading element (context). The internal can be a thermal mass (see the HB_addInternalMass component for that matter). You should NOT define this as thermal…"

Thick wall partly penetrating a zone

Hey guys,A thick wall passes through a wall of a zone (please see the image below).  Is it possible to define it in HB, taking into account its shading effect as well as its thermal interaction with the zone ? (You know it is not an exterior shading device with thermal break. It is a continuous wall with significant…See More
