Frederick Kiesler: New Harmony to Houston

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture Auditorium

What started as a studio project to rethink Frederick Kiesler’s unbuilt Grotto for Meditation has turned into an opportunity for scholarship and design. The unveiling of the digitally fabricated New Harmony Grotto is the first installation of a two tier project that will culminate in the publication of a forthcoming book. Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments of… Continue

morph[]Tools | 20100118 v.0.001

I made a simple component that creates a square pipe surface around a rail curve. It doesn't work with a closed curve though. morph[]Tools works with version 0.6.0059 and is a freely distributable package licensed under Creative Commons License.

Urbanism Attractor Technique

This urbanism approach was developed using grasshopper. This technique can use any surface and an attractor point to generate a series of towers and courtyards. The technique subdivides the surface and measures the distance between the centre-points and the attractor point. Surfaces nearer the attractor will produce a tower, whilst surfaces further away will produce a courtyard. This technique investigates housing typologies in Beijing and attempts to explore the relationship between modern… Continue

Generating Isopotential Maps

The experiment investigates generative processes for Isopotential Maps.

Considering a surface as input (it will be assumed as basic field) and a series of "n" attractors the GH definition will individuate a series of curves which describe the field of forces operating on the area.

The definition, developed in cooperation with Andrea Graziano, allows to manipulate "n" attractors as a sort of electric charges. You can decide the charge's value (positive or negative) and… Continue

Project Kangaroo - Live 3D Physics for Rhino/Grasshopper

Project Kangaroo - Live 3D Physics for Rhino/Grasshopper from Daniel Piker on Vimeo.

Very early tests of my new project - a Physics engine working within Grasshopper and Rhino and allowing real-time interaction.

The intention is that the various types of form-finding and feedback this allows could inform and enable some new ways of designing… Continue

Inspiration - Grasshopper as information tool

a very cool site of visualized information and images:

Visual Complexity

visualcomplexity.com

In terms of 'scripting' programs used, processing seems to be popular for these types of visualizations. But I think grasshopper would be a more accurate and methodological process of achieving these types of images?!

Any thoughts or examples?
