Hello! I am a new student of this plugin! I really want to know the generation of this skin, could you explain the next steps in detail? Thank you very much!

Thanks Djordje, I will try to make the table. I have to found a laser cutter, to choose aluminium to find a round glass, to find the interface to glue the glass ... Painting or not painting the aluminium ? Numbering the holes, the strips or having some print to prepare rivetting ? Still a lot of work :-)

Brilliant work Laurent!!!

This definition needs just the clustered mesh, most of the work is inside c# and they call my custom library which is on a DLL.

The definition  is proprietary, but most of the algorithm were published on this forum. For this work I put them in a big library in order to be able to make some optimisation. Here are the steps.

  1. Make a rough quad mesh
  2. Smooth it with Catmull&Clark subdivision and/or Subd
  3. Triangulate it with Meshmachine
  4. Cluster this mesh
  5. Make a sort of dual of the previous cluster (so it will become 2nd skin)
  6. Maze all the clusters
  7. Put a width on the maze paths so they become strips
  8. Smooth these strips
  9. Test if these strips can be flattened, if not go back to 6
  10. Seek for rivets positions
  11. Control distance between rivets
  12. Update mesh geometry to narrow the distance between rivets
  13. Make endings (just for the table see some of my previous images)
  14. Nest everything
  15. ...
