i think you measured the difference in Angle between the sun vector (as it is the with the same falling angle on earth for all points) and each panel normal 

then you remapped the values(remap component ) to fit changing values for opening sizes and colour values 

am i true ?

Good :) I'm interest to check this definition too.. It seems to me that you used GECO and linked the radiation value to the openning radius. Nice joke :)
I have my questions about the confiability of these tools, but as an experience, it looks very good ;)
