and yes, the file has quite a lot of "bugs" in it. It is based on the relationship between the lengths of the side of the large square and the distance of the extruding line that meets next large square. These are imput as fractions but not all numerical relations work...

What i did was to start from a basic square grid, and then selected certain grid units at specific distances from where i created larger square surfaces. then i just extruded the edge lines to create the pattern. After that, i used the morph to surface function to apply it on my 3d shape.

 

I uploaded the pattern creating part here if you are interested!

grasshopper file (guess you have to right click and save as...) hope you can make anything out of it :D

very nice!!! How did you setup the zollinger grid in grasshopper?

I tried it once but I could not find the right approach. Any Hint how to set up the definition is much appreciated
