algorithmic modeling for Rhino

A Mobius strip is a surface with only one surface with only one boundary component. It has the mathematical property of being non-orientable.

Completed. MDF Layers. About 250mm Diameter. Any inaccuracies in the shape is down to my filing. This was produced using a laser cutter, obviously a 5-axis CNC would have been much useful, but i don’t have access to one. Still undecided wether i will varnish it.

Great work Nick!!!
I need to get one of these, in a smaller scale, and throw it from hand to hand, just for fun :)

final looks great, in a way better than wood because of the "cracks"

Yes pretty much Mehmet. I modelled it as a solid then sectioned it through about 50 intersections. Then they were all layed out for lasercutting

Did you use parallel sections to achieve this or any other way? Nice work..

Yes its 3mm mdf, and was cut on a lasercutter. I designed it to be produced thicker than i wanted it so i could file/sand away all the layers.

This is a photo of how it started, pre-filing:

Is that wood? How the hell did you laser cut wood? sanded afterwards?

Mega cool...

Thanks, i thought the layers gave it a kind of artificial grain, that the mdf was lacking. I would like to try to make it laminated ply, because that would be cool. Just more expensive.

I think it's the layers that make this really nice
