Try to use Grasshopper Component to make a Pixel function. Use the "Brep/Plan" or "Mesh/Plan" intersection to contour the outlines of the volume. Transfer the contour outlines to the surfaces. Use the "Surface/Curve" intersection to get the grid line.     Could you please answer a doubt for me? why does the definition fail for a plain surface? does it always have to be a 3d object?

    Yes, it is, but I will suggest you to understand the logic of the component, it should be easily to find a way to also fit with plain and surface. cheers.
