Geometrical approximation by Developable Strips

Its a research experiment, we were trying to study a way to " approximate a doubled-curvature surface by rational, developabale pieces (Strips), in a way the strips have single curvatures".
It's still under development, but any comment or suggestion is welcome!

Dear Mark, 
Thank you for the great advice, I absolutely agree with you. there was a great paper by prof. Helmut potman Called 'Ruled Free From' published in AAG 2012 on this subject,
But in this particular case, we were concerned to do this by geometrical characteristics of the surface (not using the differential expression based on principal curvature). Sorry of its ambiguous! I'll try to upload the design process here as soon as it's ready.

This is looking great, well done!  I'm sure you may have already thought about this, but just in case, conic sections are a great way to approximate double curvature (a dome is really a series of truncated cones).
