Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

This 3D print is of the skeleton script, not representational of the final design.

The buildings skeleton has multiple factors affecting its form. Most obviously the lower frequency of branches higher up. Additional parameters include culling branches on length, cross-sectional area, horizontality, and spatial requirements.

Hey, this is a great thesis project, I'm a student of architecture as well working on my thesis, the form that i was thinking somehow reassembles the form you have created. I tried to create my forms in Rhino however, I couldnt quite achieve the formal quality. I was wondering perhaps you could walk me through your thought process in designing the script.

Thankss!!

Pity!

Hey Patric, unfortunately i don't have this script anymore, and i am more disappointed about that than you. My hard-drive was stolen...

Thank you for the feeback Jon, i have been a fan of your blog for a long time. Can you please elaborate on the scale/complexity comment please, do you refer to translation of small scale structures to building scale, that dont hold the same structural benefits/efficiency?

i feel like these studies are much more successful than when you jump in scale such as in the renderings following this post.  i would likely re-examine the scale and complexity of where you go from these models.
