Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Connecting the Dots was an interior installation project by Francisco Gomez Paz made for showcasing his work at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2012.

My part was making the parametric definition which was used to explore the design and facilitate the fabricatation of the entire structure.

162 unique-shape nodes, 3d printed
469 unique-length aluminium tubes, CNC laser cut

Tools used:
- Grashopper: the definition is entirely parametric from start (defining the overall shape of the structure) to finish (exporting DXF and STEP files for fabrication)
- Kangaroo: shaping the lattice
- T-Splines (with GH plugin): smooth geometry of the connection nodes

And yup, it is quite neat and it did work. You could un-click them and disassemble the structure and put it back again several times.

Well, this little detail was actually designed by FGP, so the credit goes to his studio.
