Cellular Swarm

Around 600 card nodes were cut, to create Cellular Swarm. The project was a last second installation to fill an exhibition window.

Design time 15 mins, Lasercutting time 5 hours, Construction 30 mins.

hah! I have tried it on my own 2 days ago :) it possible to make "master cell" made of pentagon shape top and bottom and 5 simple structures on its sides, and than form rest of the cell structures

wish I have cut more elements :)

Yeh its all an illusion. They can tesselate in a single direction, so you can make rods/towers out of them without any bending. Then i just piled a load of them ontop of each other. Then hung some on fish line to make the structure more freeform. Now ive told you it takes the mystery away from the magic haha

true, yesterday I was trying to make it with simple triangles and 2 cubes made of em wont connect without bending...

Could the triangles connect together flat or do they need to bend? It does not seem to be possible to get together without bending pieces.
