There's nothing in Rhino for finding Surface Self intersections, so I'm afraid this is not going to happen anytime soon.

Thanks Chris! Yes, I think that is probably the best way to go about this. The trouble, I guess, will be to keep them tangent/coplanar when either of them is edited.

You could create the illusion of this by having two surfaces that are tangent or sort of coplanar. The seam would continue into the surface, but when you render or fabricate, it disappears.

The model shows one self-intersecting surface. Could Grasshopper produce this and trim the surface at the intersection? Thanks!

Well... is it possible to create an intricate (and developable) surface that trims to itself at self-intersections?
I realize this is an extremely vague question. I'll see if I can produce an example model.
