doing this with the current tools or a bit of scripting since the Flickr API allows you to make requests in a REST format, but utilizing the Flickr.net API library makes it much simpler. First and foremost, you need a Flickr API key...do you have one of those? A great way to get to know the Flickr API is with the API Explorer.  Here is a link to the page for the flickr.photos.search method explorer: http://www.flickr.com/services/api/explore/flickr.photos.search The cool thing about this page is that it generates the REST Http call towards the bottom.  So, here is what I did: 1. Grab the coordinates of the bounding box per Flickr API request: bbox (Optional) A comma-delimited list of 4 values defining the Bounding Box of the area that will be searched. The 4 values represent the bottom-left corner of the box and the top-right corner, minimum_longitude, minimum_latitude, maximum_longitude, maximum_latitude. Longitude has a range of -180 to 180 , latitude of -90 to 90. Defaults to -180, -90, 180, 90 if not specified. Unlike standard photo queries, geo (or bounding box) queries will only return 250 results per page. Geo queries require some sort of limiting agent in order to prevent the database from crying. This is basically like the check against "parameterless searches" for queries without a geo component. A tag, for instance, is considered a limiting agent as are user defined min_date_taken and min_date_upload parameters — If no limiting factor is passed we return only photos added in the last 12 hours (though we may extend the limit in the future). So, I went to Google Earth, picked a city (London, UK) and dropped two pins: This gave me two locations, which I can put into the Explorer Page next to the bbox option.  Here is what I put for these two points: -0.155941,51.496768,-0.116783,51.511431 2. Check has_geo 3. In extras, type in geo  4. Make the call! You will see a list of responses in an XML format, these responses will be from the first page.  Geolocated photos are limited to 250 / page, so you will have to grab them page by page. If you want to add more options (minimum upload date, maximum upload date, etc) you can do this as well) The best is at the bottom, you get the full http call for this: http://api.flickr.com/services/rest/?method=flickr.photos.search&api_key=ffd44f601393a46e86aa3a5f8a013360&bbox=-0.155941%2C51.496768%2C-0.116783%2C51.511431&has_geo=&extras=geo&format=rest&api_sig=b42330e5d1523bd5fe60c2ad43acde99 Notice this call has some other api key, you should eventually replace this with your own. You could copy and paste this into a browser and you will get the results with the latitude and longitude: So this is really what you need to know to do this through GH.  Since gHowl has an XML parser component that can access files on the web, you should be able to use the same http call into this component. Eventually, we get a response, and we need to grab the lat and lon data.  With gHowl we can map these to xyz coordinates, and generate the heatmap...this is just a linear mapping: Attached are both the Rhino file and the Grasshopper file, as well as the image underlay. I am working on a series of components that makes this more straightforward, but for now, this should get you started. …

reaky thing consisting from triangulated "modules" (i.e an assembly out of this, this and that) where the exterior edges ARE always under tension (= SS 304/316 cables OR nylon) and the interior ones MAY be under compression ( = steel, aluminum, wood, carbon) OR ... some of them ...may be under tension. Bastardized T trusses deviate a bit from theory ... but who cares? (not me anyway). T trusses have many variants (but as the greatest ever said: Less is More). 2. Large scale T for AEC is the art of pointless since it costs around the GNP of Nigeria. Here's some indicative components from a module of a multi adjustable TX system costing (the module) ~ the price of my Panigale (Google that): The above is mailed to a friend who has MIT (yes, that MIT: the top dog) on sight ... therefor he needs some appropriate "credentials", he he. 3. The distance that separates the above with the demo TDT node provided is around 666.666 miles - but we don't care: we are after Art not some testimony to vanity. 4. On purpose I've used a smallish ring to give you a clear indication upon the constrain numero uno in truss design: CLASH matters. 5. You'll need: (a) A decision related with the tensioners (classic Norseman + SS cables or nylon machined thingies?). (b) A machinist who can do elementary stuff (like the adapters) and can weld this to that (the "ring" for instance). His abilities must be 1 in a scale of 100. st variety of papers (mostly related with LIDAR airborne sampled clouds) ... but ... hmm ... no code (other than some "abstract" algos that may (or may not) work). Reason? A very hot cake that one these days: from reverse engineering to DARPA founded future defense systems and up to cruse missiles pattern recognition algos. The solution (obviously doable only via code) is the so called flat hard clustering ... were points are sampled into clusters based on the coPlanarity "rule". For large amounts recursive octTrees (an oriented box divided in 8 "partitions") subdivisions are used and then pts are processed in parallel  (and then clusters are re-evaluated in order to "absorb" other clusters with same plane A,B,C,D vars etc etc). See what's happening in a very carefully made test point collection: 3.7 ms and the "ideal" clustering (7 search loops VS the max 42M theoretical threshold): Depending on the pts "preparation" ... a considerable more time/search loops is required ... and ... well ... also "valid" clusters (4 points and up) made: So "ideally" speaking in your case: 1. Mesh faces center points (or alternatively: mesh vertices) are sampled into a pts collection . 2. Hard flat coPlanarity clustering is attempted yielding pts/planes in equivalent DataTrees. 3. Planar Breps are made with respect the planes (like the black things captured above) and sampled, say, into a breps List. 4. The method Brep[] solids = Brep.CreateSolid(breps);  is used for attempting to create your desired "engulfing" brep. This method is very slow mind (other waaaay faster approaches also available). …

Topic: How do I decompose 2 intersecting surfaces then recompose as 1?
nd the tool can create a single surface having the texture of the original input surfaces. (Visualize two waves interacting on the surface of a body of water.) But a surface intersection operations is producing unexpected results, putting my entire algorithm at risk of failing. I’ve enclosed a .GH that has a simplified version of the algorithm I intended to use to produce a single surface from the two input surfaces. How it works is to use the Brep | Brep component to generate a set of curves where the input surfaces meet. I then apply these cutting curves to a Surface Split component on each input surface. I intended to then programmatically cull the set of brep’s from the split operations, removing all those that aren’t on the face of the target surface. Finally, I would join all the remaining prep’s into a synthesized surface that reflects the facial interactions of the originals. This algorithm is however not completing successfully because the outputs of the Brep | Brep don’t appear to accurately reflect the complete set of curves at the intersections of the 2 faces. I think it’s because of these incomplete set of curves that the Surface Split operations are returning a very incomplete set of sub-surfaces. This sparse set of results don’t allow me to reassemble the sub-surfaces to form a complete synthesized face. This posting includes the Grasshopper document, as well as a screenshot of the GH code. The GH Intersection and split operations take a long time to complete. So I’ve enclosed Bake’d versions of the important geometries in the layers of the 3dm document as indicated below. But this results in a 12MB document, which is larger than the discussion can handle. But i can be downloaded from here. (my Google drive) Scaled Waves                   - Layer 1 Brep | Brep out                - Layer 2 top Surface Split out         - Layer 3 bot Surface Split out         - Layer 4 I think there are problems in Rhino/Grasshopper related to intersections and splits. The results of CANactions will be published in ACC magazine (link), on the web-sites of “Architectural club” (link), AB "ZOTOV&CO" (www.zotov.com.ua), Theme Theme of CANactions 2009 is emergent design techniques. This theme could include following architectural branches as Digital design, sustainable architecture and other sectors, which by the participants’ opinions, could be EMERGENT.??? Any architectural projects made earlier of specially for the CANactions’09 are allowed for submission. Presentation All the projects will be submitted in two phases: Phase 1 – selection of 10-15 participants of CANactions. Project has to be sent by e-mail to: (__) in PDF (not less then 300 dpi, not more then 10 Mb). Phase 2 –the CANactions participants prepare 15-20 min presentation of their projects (screen projector, microphone) and materials for the exhibition in House of Architect, Kyiv. The project has to be presented by author. -> exhibition is the first architecture biennale Presentation requirements: file should be composed in PDF format on A0 sheets, placed horizontal (not more then 1 sheets). re. I can point you to a couple of examples of structures at Expedition that we issued the primary set-out information to the contractor in digital form as a Rhino File. These particular structures necessitated this, trying to document tapered structures without "pure" mathematical setout would have been inefficient and problematic using traditional CAD drawings. You will need to have a close working relationship with the contractor/fabricator. For example, we would issue the entire model due various phases, and we used special line-type names assigned to layers to denote status such as "For Construction", "For Information", etc etc so that this information is clearly defined. Infinity bridge is a project everyone that was involved in was proud of, http://www.expedition.uk.com/index.php?pid=28 . All the setout of this form found dual arch bridge, that the box girder bifurcated over the centre support and tapered in size along it's length with inclined webs was defined in our Rhino model. Of course we still had to issue traditional 2d plans, elevations and sections (which were primarily exported line work from sectioning in Rhino), as builders don't generally walk around with laptops (and there was 3rd party checking, contract letting etc that don't work so well with digital models). Also, the Entrance Transfer Structure at 55 Baker Street - http://www.expedition.uk.com/index.php?pid=55 (First photo in sequence) was our first project in communicating to the contractor with Rhino models as primary set-out. Both of these projects were a success, but you have to be really careful and diligent with the models and the checking of them (not that that is any different to any drawing/model preperation). The slightest error could be quite costly if first detected when the project is on site being assembled. I can also say, that many of the tools for exchanging (importing and exporting) of structure models that you can try from http://www.geometrygym.com/downloads are being used by quite a few firms around the globe for more typical skeletal steel frame projects. Many of the analysis programs can then be used to transfer the structure directly to BIM like REVIT, and some custom spreadsheet formats allow transfer to/from Digital Project. I can't really say in public the projects these are being used on, but I can say they are renowned designers on quite high profile projects. Even if the tools are used for coordinating and checking with your Rhino model if you need to redevelop from scratch, they will save you time and effort, and a key aspect of the service of these tools is near immediate support with custom and bespoke aspects that your project demands. . Il m'arrive de l'utiliser dans mon cadre professionnel (structures architecturales) mais cela reste rare. J'ai pensé à une idée que j'aimerais bien développer, et j'aimerais savoir ce que vous pensez. Ce n'est pas un grand projet, juste une petite chose pour s'amuser. Evidemment absolument non lucratif. Je voudrais créer un blog ou un forum qui regrouperait une communauté, disons francophone, afin de "relever des défis grasshopper". Aucune compétition là-dedans, le concept serait assez simple : N'importe qui pourrait lancer un nouveau thread en proposant un défi grasshopper. Par exemple, comment créer ceci (sans passer par la boîte toute faite dans grasshopper) :   ou cela : sous grasshopper, ou comment résoudre tel ou tel problème avec grasshopper ? Les exemples ci-dessous sont justes à titre informatif, il s'agit de choses déjà faites sur le web, et même sur ce forum. C'est uniquement pour illustrer l'idée. Ensuite le jeu consiste à ce que chacun cherche sa solution, soit en ne lisant pas celles des autres soit en le faisant, tout en cherchant la solution la plus élégante. Pour chaque problème logique, il pourrait être aussi proposé de trouver en plus une idée d'application dans la vie courante/design/architecture/méthode de fabrication ect.... Le but du jeu n'est pas de faire de la compétition avec les autres mais de chercher de façon ludique, collective et conviviale la plus belle solution afin d'améliorer les compétences de chacun en logique et en utilisation de grasshopper. Qu'en dites vous ? Qui serait intéressé et, soyons fous, qui serait partant pour m'aider à monter ça ? Bonne journée à vous, Marc…
