Comment on: Topic 'importing stl format file to Grasshopper'
alone takes 8 seconds minus any other code: Thanks to Google, Python coding is damn easy since English language questions about how to do something immediately gives peer reviewed and rated answers from stackoverflow.com and other sites. Much better than long reference manuals by single authors! My 19 lines of code were thus a lot easier and less frustrating then the 22 Grasshopper components with assigned numbers and wire input modifiers. You do have to reverse the Windows backslashes with forward slashes in the file path Panel.…

Comment on: Topic 'Variance in Calculation times'
pt. This time I found: 1. 8 CPUs takes a few seconds longer than 4 CPUs. 2. The first analysis took about 1 minute or so, whereas the 2nd and 3rd attempt took little more than 2 minutes.  I don't understand why, but I thought I would update you. When I was first learning Ladybug/Honeybee, I repeated analyses without much discrepancy in duration. So I'm not sure what is different about my first script.  If you could still look at my original script to see if you can reproduce the results, I would appreciate it. Additionally, if you notice that the script is inefficient, I'd appreciate input. Thanks. Geof…

ery nice short post about this which I can't find right now. I will ask him and if he couldn't find the link then I will rewrite it here. What you're doing is the right approach to find the optimum number of CPU's for your case. 2. Why running the same analysis for the second time with Daysim takes much longer than the first time? Well, this should not happen. I have been told about this another time too but I couldn't recreate the issue. I will test your file and let you know the results. This is something that we can definitely fix. Mostapha…

Comment on: Topic 'How to calculate outdoor Mean Radiant Temperature using Ladybug/Honeybee'
I heard that you are working on the integration of Butterfly with HB/LB to include the effect of local wind speed to evaluate microclimate. Have you already produced any examples on this? If so, it would be very useful.  The way I am working with this right now is exporting the wind simulation results from another software (Autodesk CFD) and importing them into Grasshopper. I run simulation for 8 wind directions (every 45 degrees) and extrapolating the local wind speed for each point hourly considering the hourly weather data (wind speed and wind direction).  2- Evapotranspiration effect from trees and other plants. Is it possible at all to evaluate this with HB? I have not found any reference to evapotranspiration in the forum.  Thanks in advance! Alejandro  …

Anemone - This was fun.  You could use 'Fast Loop' but it's fun to watch. I see that Brian Harms has done a version without looping.  Interesting approach but different model so different results.

s the shapes; connecting the 'X' vector instead of the 'Y' vector to 'Orient dA' puts them jumping around the circle instead of into it. And this code ungroups the body shape curves, selects the outer one only and attempts to 'Sweep1', which fails...  'Loft' works with the right loft options: 'Closed Loft' and 'Rebuild' - you might want to play around with those.  'Mesh Brep' will convert this lofted surface to a mesh. …

Topic: Yet another paths question...
the components seem to handle that like a list of lists, like a 2D array. Say I send this 2x4 data to a curve divide, and it creates 10 points per each of 8 curves, then I feel like it should be outputting a sort of 3D array - 2 paths of 4 paths of 10 points, and I CAN still see the array structure in the param viewer. But I feel like it is outputting paths 20 paths of 5 point each. Is there are way to access the 2x10 stucture at this point? (Manuel, I did just read your reply to my other post, and see that might be an answer to this, thanks) Is everything pretty much handled as a 2D list of lists, and no 3D (no list of lists of lists)? Are the tree logic components the key to getting the right 2D structure out of 3D (or deeper) structures? Thanks!!! Chris…

Topic: twisting rope ladder
However, those side lines are not constant length. (colour indicating difference from original length) A real proper dynamic model would maybe start with steps flat to xy plane in order to set up the model for kangaroo with springs and some twisting force on the top step. (?) As the next step / rung in the ladder twists ... it necessarily comes closer to the first step / rung . . . now I can model this for 2 steps using hoopsnake and some other methods... but can't then extent along the curve for ~8 - 10 plus steps very dynamically / parametrically any suggestions welcome. a couple of lame attempts attached in one file.…
