Parametrically Driven Auxetic Foam

Foam component taken from "Negative Poisson's Ratio Polymeric and Metallic Foams" adapted from Friis, E. A., Lakes, R. S., and Park, J. B., "Negative Poisson's ratio polymeric and metallic materials", Journal of Materials Science, 23, 4406-4414 (1988). modelled in Paracloud

Hi Norbert! Great images, both this model, and the 3D printed one. The auxetic foams are new for me. Is there any video recording of one of your lectures related to this topic? Did you try to make a GH definition of such structure? If so, could you share a simple one with the members of this network? There must be a huge potential of its application in spatial design...

    hello Mirjana,
i have modelled the foam in paracloud. it consists of a cellular components that has specific 3D movements attached to the hinges. if you want i can send you a screendump of the definition.
paracloud allows to assign excel matrix values that configure the coordinate. sound more tricky than it really is. i send you a pic that will exxplain it.

    Hi Nobert
I was on your presentation in TU Berlin several weekes ago.
really nice things U r doing is it possible to read somewere about qualities of materials U r developing?

    regards
    Alex

    hello alexander,
i will be printing a series of tests in the course of the next two weeks. i am working on a simulation method for the material performance and then it will be physically tested. i am expecting to have more fully functioning material and first test results in a month. i will post it here. thanks
