Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everybody,

I am running a Daylight simulation with Honeybee, and I am trying to get some results also with the last version of Diva.

I was wondering if there is a way to run the daylight simulation only for a specific amount of time. I'm modeling a school, so I'm interested only in what happens during the months of school occupancy.

Is there a specific component I can use or is there a way to add the schedule that I create?

Thank you all for your work and time.

Hi Carlie,

Please find a sample for Honeybee.

Hi Devang,

Thank you very much for your help.

I was wondering: why do you have to add the ground outside in the simulation?

Thank you very much,

Carlie

Carlie,

Ideally, all the context geometry shall be modelled. In this case, I modelled the ground surface out of habit actually. Please find a checklist attached. Might be useful.

Devang,

Thank you, this is really useful!

I have another question (hope not to bother you). I'm trying to run the daylight analysis as said before. For what concern the daylight analysis everything seems to work properly but when I'm trying to calculate the SunLightAnalysis and the ViewAnalysis inside my classroom, the result is always zero. Do you have any idea of why is that? Is it because these component work only for the outdoor? It seems that the window is not recognize.

I don't know if I was clear enough, so I've attached the gh file on which I'm working on.

Thank you again for your time,

Carlie

Carlie,

You're absolutely right. The openings were not being recognized. The geometry you were providing was a box without any openings. I fixed that. Both the studies work now.

Awsome!!

Thank you very much Devang, I really appreciate your help.

Hi Devang,

I tried to run the galapagos component in order to optimize the amount of lux inside my classroom. I linked the genome and the fitness as in figure, defining as threshold 300 lux (which is the maximum reachable for my class).

After one night of running, this is the result (which again seems zero), could be the same problem of the unrecognized window?

how can I obtain some visible results?

I attach the gh file and the pic of the galapagos so you can understand better (I switch off all the component so it doesn't take to long when you open it).

Thank you very much, your kind assistance on this is very much appreciated.

Hi Carlie,

Please find the file attached. Should work now. I also would like to point that on the righthand side, you're using the luminance values to in all the three visualization components. Nothing wrong about it. I made that observation because the group names are sunlight hours and Glare potential.

Devang,

Thank you very much.

I'll run the galapagos tonight because I'm afraid that it takes too much if I do it right now.

You're absolutely right, I put the name "glare potential" in order to differentiate the gradIndex that I used.

What if I want to make a glare analysis optimization [cd/m2]? Is it enough to link the fitness to the DGI as in the figure?

Is it better, for this purpose, to use galapagos or octopus(I've never used it but I read it is really efficient)?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, sorry.

Thank you,

Carlie

Carlie,

Yeah. For multi-objective optimization, Octopus will be a good choice for sure.
