algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I am currently testing loads on a series of trusses with Karamba and the deformed model seems to be behaving correctly when I apply a load, however when I add colour to demonstrate axial stress and show the local axes, they don't seem to correlate correctly to the model. I would assume that for a load applied equally to the truss that the gradient would be mirrored on each side.

I have attached a screenshot- any help would be gratefully received!

Thanks,

Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

you are right. When the geometry, the loads and the boundary conditions are symmetric then the same should be the true for the displacements and stresses.

If you post the definition of the truss I could take a look.

Best,

Clemens

Hi Clemens,

Thanks so much for taking the time to have a look. It's my first try with Karamba so apologies if it is not the most efficient model. I have internalised the curves and points from Rhino so hopefully this file works.

Hi Rebecca,

the source of the problem could be that there are multiple, coincident elements defined as the posts and diagonals of the truss (see element ids in attached definition).

In order to make the model work as a truss wall (with bending set to 'false') you need to add supports in each node in the direction perpendicular to the truss plane.

Best,

Clemens
