Error: "Solution exception:Object reference not set to an instance of an object" after Reopening a Definition

Hey, all.

I keep running into one particular issue: when I reopen a (previously) functioning definition I receive the following error for the Kangaroo Physics capsule: "Solution exception:Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Any idea why this is happening?

This has happened to me before, and I rebuilt the definition(s). I'm hoping there's a simpler method. Below is an image of a definition I'm working on where this issue occurs. Many thanks.

Best,

Have you tried setting Reset to True then False? (to re-initialize the simulation)

If that doesn't work, maybe post the file.

(oh, and btw - a 20880 * 7840 resolution image of your definition?!!)

Thanks for your reply, Daniel. I have and unfortunately the Boolean Reset didn't change anything. I also tried using a new Kangaroo Physics capsule. No go. Attached is the definition. Thanks!

(P.S. Thanks for the image size heads up. Totally forgot to decrease it after the export. I uploaded a new 5220x1960 image above.)

Ah, I found the problem.

It seems there is some bug with the latest version of Grasshopper not properly opening internalized inputs from clusters in files saved in older versions.

Change the RestLengthFactor in the SpringsFromMesh component from Null to 1, and it works fine.

Just tested it out. Perfect; thanks very much, Daniel!

I have one more question, if you don't mind: the output mesh seems to be uniform (at least I defined the forces to act uniformly), but the mesh's output grid seems to be reacting oddly, shifting somehow. This is easily seen if you preview the Naked Vertices capsule or bake the mesh. Any ideas why or how to control that?

Thanks again.

Update: I figured out a way to construct the mesh differently, producing a better output. All I had to do was rebuild it using Weaverbird's "Constant Quads" component. Simpler than I thought.

Thanks again for your help.

I have similar problem with the patch command it was working fine and i even baked some geometry. After reopening it i got the same message : "1. Solution exception:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.". Did you find any solution to this?

I found another way by using patch surface but it is still an interesting issue. is it a bug?
