Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hello everyone,

i am working on my final year project and your help will be greatly appreciated as i have no one to help me here.

im trying to make those concrete shell structures using kangaroo but i have no idea what my starting mesh should be like, i tried a flat surface mesh but it didnt work out the way i wanted so i figured i might be starting with the wrong mesh.

can someone please suggest a way on how to recreate this?

Could you post your definition/rhino file or screenshots?

How are you defining your mesh? I'm not super experienced with Kangaroo, but what I usually do is make a rectangular surface in Rhino, link it to grasshopper, and use its geometry to define a UV Mesh

here's a basic definition that i think should put you in the right direction. it's a little rough, but it works. Flip the boolean toggle on and off to reset the simulation if you need to. The range for the number sliders is particular to the surface in the rhino file and can vary a ton based on your input geometry.

Thank you for your help! im testing the definition and understanding it at the moment. im wondering how the sharp middle rib on the top of those domes is achieved? its a very interesting project to study in kangaroo

Hi! As Dylan said, image looks like there is a catenary principle gonig on. So you can use gravity force (Kangaroo) to achieve this geometry.

Here a tutorial on this:

Cheers

thank you, the principle is quite easy but the execution of such form was harder than i thought. they turn out bulky and not as intricate as the image.

have you tried RhinoVault by BLOCK research group?

Easy to learn, hard to master and fast, robust and there is so much documentation !!!

cheers!
