Creating a layer and assigning a material in rhino 6

I hope I'm not repeating an existing topic here.

I setting up a workflow that uses Andrew's super handy tools to generate layers and materials but failing in assigning the materials to the layers.

Is this due to a missing implementation for rhino6 or am I missing something?
