algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I just wanted to try the region slits component for the first time and instantly got an error. Checking if the surfaces are indeed planar as they should be, it says they are.

Still the Region Slits shows an error saying "shape must be a planar region".

It seems like its still the same bug from 2014 as mentioned here:

Anyone know of a plugin that has a working component that does the same thing?

I didnt think it would even through the error with 3 super simple surfaces intersecting at right angles at 2 points.

Works for me after simplifying curves:

Oh, thanks Tom, good to know. Kind of strange it would still fail though. And I actually baked the curves before simplifying and noticed in Rhino they already have the least possible number of control points!?

I know it is the smallest number. And I see that there 7 points and after simplification it remains 7 points. But after that it works.

What else is changed after simplify of points? I assume it is not only distance thing when all points a merged within certain tolerance. Have you tried your new curves with simplification?

I made quite a big model with many planar panels, and this component did not fail. I am wondering what you are doing wrong.

Hm, yeah that is strange. Not doing anything special, its just the bottom straight line, then projected onto a surface to make the top curve and connect the end points together and join the curves to make a closed curve.

Oh well, maybe its just a coincidence, but region slits seems to be a bit fussy as seen in the other forum post from 2014. I guess it hasn't been updated since then.

Good to know that whatever simplify curve does, it might help even if its not obvious.
