Rail Intersect Definition - Primer

I am working my way through the Grasshopper Primer V3.3 and have a question about the definition supplied for F.4.3.6 Rail Intersect Definition.  

I understand that typically you would create your own application specific curves in Rhino to then set them in Grasshopper.  I am am unsure how the base curves in the accompanying example definition are defined.
