Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Have just downloaded Grasshopper to try out a GH script posted on Rhino3D.com discussion list.

Here's something for the GH developers: I have both Rhino5 WIP and Rhino 4 installed. The Grasshopper install exe has no option window to let me choose which instance of Rhino to install to. It opts by itself to install in Rhino4, which I don't use. So I guess I'll just copy and paste the whole GH plug-in folder to Rhino 5 myself. Hope it works, huh?

Well, I hope that helps someone, as my debut contribution. Apologies if not.

if I'm not mistaken, Rhino 5.0 reads the Rhino 4.0 plug-in folder. No need to move it. If for some reason it doesn't load in Rhino 5.0 this way, use the command PluginManager and reference the grasshopper rhp manually.

Hi Andrew, thanks for replying. Rhino5 didn't automatically read the Rhino4 plugins (as in, when you look for available plugins under R5's Tools->Options->Plugins (show All Plug-ins). (Note: this sequence has the same result as command PluginManager). If there is a way to manually point to the rhino 4 program directory, I can't see it. But anyway, I copied and pasted the whole Grasshopper plug-in folder from my R4 plugins directory to the R5 plugins directory. The Plug-in Manager then immediately showed it, and I installed, all ok. Still, couldn't the Grasshopper exe installer easily be modified to ask where the install should go, rather than it just defaulting to the R4 directory? Not that its my concern anymore, I've moved on to figuring out how GH works!

I know for my plugins, I can install and write registry keys for Rhino v4 and v5 32 bit to load the plugin.  The difficulty for me is 64 bit v5 as I haven't figured a means for the same installer to access both registries.  Not sure if the GH installer works in a similar fashion (or if you are running 64 or 32 bit v5?)

Yes Jon you're right that is relevant -- I am running Rhino5 64-bit.
