SUMMARY:WORKSHOP INSITU blokcadlab - uA Collective - UPB Medellín
DESCRIPTION:Merging the process of recycled construction waste materia
ls + digital tools\nuA collective, Blokcad Lab and the Pontificia Boli
variana University Medellin are excited to announce an upcoming collab
orative workshop, INSITU Medellin. Lead by uA-collective co-founders a
nd Blokcad Lab, INSITU is a weeklong workshop for architecture student
s and professionals in Medellin, Colombia that will investigate how ce
ramic materials can merge with new technologies to create small-scale
interventions that influence urban space.\nColombia has a long traditi
on in masonry architecture, and an ability to express architecture thr
ough materiality. Its use of ceramic materials in historical and moder
n projects has demonstrated how the sense of place can be influenced b
y not simply the form, but more by the material expression.\nAt a mate
rial level, participants will explore Blokcad Lab’s innovative proce
ss of repurposing masonry construction waste material; at a computatio
nal level, participants will explore their designs through Rhino3D and
Grasshopper, and at the centre, participants will actualize their des
igns through the use of multi-axis milling machines to realize their u
rban interventions.\nINSITU Medellin is the first edition of the globa
l initiative between uA and Blokcad Lab with following events schedule
d in South America and Europe. Each event will focus on investigating
the informal development of the host city, its non-consolidated urban
spaces and auto-construction processes. INSITU will be a social and te
chnological platform for knowledge exchange between neighborhoods and
communities all over the world. We invite government, industry, academ
ic and public organizations to partner with us at each event.\n\nConta
