DESCRIPTION:\nIn march 2014 the first REACTION 1401 took place in Pari
 s. Due to a large number of applications, we were unable to accept al
 l the participants.\nWe have decided to replicate the workshop on 27-2
 9th of June 2014.\nRegistration is now open.\nINTRO\nDesign in contemp
 orary architecture focuses on being evolutionary, temporary, changeabl
 e, but above all adaptable and customizable to the socio-technological
  contexts and to people’s needs. By working in tandem with new techn
 ologies through potentially endless approximations, designers can more
  easily and precisely ensure that every morphological decision respond
 s to the multiple requirements of different environments.\nREACTION 14
 01 / JUNE 2014\nREACTION 1401 focuses on understanding and controllin
 g the logics of genetics or evolutionary algorithms. Those evoluti
 onary solvers apply the principles of evolution found in nature to fi
 nd an optimal solution to a problem. We will explore the potentials of
  those design techniques. Environmental and energetic data will be the
  main inputs of those processes that will drive our design choices tow
 ards flexible, progressive, interactive solutions.\nSOFTWARE & SKILLS\
 nBasic modeling skills in Rhino and Grasshopper are required. No speci
 fic environmental modelling design skills are required (although an in
 troductory knowledge of environmental modelling is welcome). Participa
 nts should bring their own laptop with a pre-installed software. The s
 oftware package needed has no additional cost for the participant (Rhi
 no can be downloaded as evaluation version, Grasshopper and plugins ar
 e free). These softwares are subject to frequent updates, so a downloa
 d link to the version used in the workshop will be sent to the partici
 pants a few days before the workshop. The main plugins for Grasshopper
  that will be used are: Heliotrope, Galapagos, Goat, Meshedit, Mesh+,
