SUMMARY:Physical Computing with Firefly in Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:Somewhere Something is offering a one day introduction to
Firefly workshop. Firefly is a set of comprehensive software tools
dedicated to bridging the gap between Grasshopper, the Arduino microc
ontroller and other input/output devices like web cams, mobile phones,
lights, motors and many more. It allows near real-time data flow betw
een the digital and physical worlds – enabling the possibility to ex
plore virtual and physical prototypes with unprecedented fluidity. Th
rough lectures and demonstrations, participants will learn how to sens
e various data sources (environmental, behavioral, web-based) and use
the information to create interactive prototypes controlling actuators
including servo motors and LED lights. This workshop is suitable for
those interested in interactive environments, design robotics and fabr
ication, and implementation of the Internet of Things. Requires purch
ase of the Arduino Inventor's Kit.\nTopics Covered\n\nWhat is Firefl
y? What is Arduino?\nHow to navigate the user interface.\nHow to sense
data and accurately scale (or remap) values to work with a specific d
esign problem.\nHow to wire and power your prototype correctly.\nAn ov
erview of sensors and actuators available and where to purchase them.\
nHow to use Twitter data to control your design.\n\nAbout the Instruct
ors\nBiayna Bogosian and Jason King are co-founders of Somewhere S
omething and have over two decades of combined experience in architec
ture, design technology, and teaching. We strive to make our workshops
fun and informative, helping participants integrate new design techno
logies into their workflows.\n\nFor more information visit https://www
