SUMMARY:modeLab Strip Morphologies II Workshop | 2011.11.12-13 | NYC
DESCRIPTION:Studio Mode/modeLab is pleased to announce the first insta
llment of the modeFab workshop series: Strip Morphologies II. Further
information and registration can be found below. We hope to see you ne
xt month!\n \nAs a continuation of the Strip Morphologies workshop he
ld in June 2010, Strip Morphologies II is a two-day intensive design,
prototyping, and fabrication workshop to be held in New York City duri
 ng the weekend of November 12-13, 2011. In a fast-paced and hands-on l
earning environment, this workshop will investigate the morphology of
the ’strip’ by cross-linking developable surfaces and joining stra
tegies. We will identify and exploit the constraints inherent in sheet
material and CNC laser-cutting technology to explore and construct hi
ghly articulated material assemblies. Furthermore, the workshop will p
rovide participants with instruction in digital fabrication techniques
and direct access to CNC equipment. \nThis workshop will consist of
a series of instructional lectures, open work sessions, and guided exe
rcises, beginning with an introduction to Computational Geometry and G
rid-Based Modeling. The workshop is structured to allow each participa
nt time to iteratively develop design prototypes, moving quickly from
digital design environments to material artifacts and back again throu
ghout the weekend.\nThe workshop will progress through the following s
ubtopics:\n-Computational Geometry :: Introduction to Curves, Surfaces
, Meshes in Rhinoceros\n-Grid-Based Modeling + Implicit History :: Int
roduction to Paneling Tools\n-Articulation + Influencers :: Proximity,
Image Mapping, Curvature Strategies\n-Detailing + Fabrication :: Prot
otyping Workflows with an 80W CNC Laser\nAs part of a larger online in
frastructure, modeLab, this workshop provides participants with contin
ued support and knowledge to draw upon for future learning.\nAttendanc
e will be limited to provide each participant maximum dedicated time w
ith instructors.\n\n\n To register or for more information : http://
