SUMMARY:LATTICE LAB: Topological Modeling + 3D Printing
DESCRIPTION:LATTICE LAB: Topological Modeling + 3D Printing | 2012 Nov
ember 17-18\n***New Date: Postponed due to Hurricane Sandy.\nOverview:
LATTICE LAB is a two-day workshop on the topic of Topological/Subdiv
ision Modeling with Paneling Tools and Weaverbird. In a fast-paced and
hands-on learning environment, we will cover Fundamental Concepts rel
ated to Working with Mesh Geometry, High-Order Topological Smoothing,
and Grid-Based Modeling. Drawing inspiration from the patterns found i
n 3-Dimensional Lattice Structures, we will create geometrical units c
apable of responding to a range of dynamic contexts. Additionally, we
will explore the limits and opportunities of 3D Printing while testing
the visual and structural effects of our Lattices.\nFramework: Lab pa
rticipants will learn how to create, distribute, and smooth mesh eleme
nts through the Plug-Ins Paneling Tools and Weaverbird for Rhinoceros.
The Lab curriculum will include a series of instructional lectures, l
ab exercises, and open work sessions. Instructional lectures will serv
e to both introduce key concepts and spark discussion amongst the grou
 p. Modeled after carefully selected case-studies, lab exercises are de
signed to make abstract technical concepts concrete and applicable to
creative professionals. Open work sessions will offer participants tim
e to develop individual design studies with one-on-one assistance by t
he Lab instructors. In theLATTICE LAB, participants will also be intro
duced to and work directly with our ABS 3D Printer to produce design p
rototypes, moving quickly from digital design environments to material
artifacts and back again. Participants from all creative fields and b
ackgrounds are encouraged to attend and lend their perspective to the
Lab. As part of a larger online infrastructure, modeLab, this worksho
p provides participants with continued support and knowledge to draw u
pon for future learning.\n\nFor more information visit https://www.gra
