SUMMARY:Introduction to Grasshopper // Sep 6-7 // Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:\nSomewhereSomething is offering a 2-day introduction to
Grasshopper workshop that will introduce participants to Grasshopper
 , a node-based algorithmic editor that functions as a plug-in within t
he Rhinoceros environment. Grasshopper enables designers to explore va
riation and possibilities in an efficient workflow. Furthermore, Grass
hopper has encouraged a vast community of users who have created an im
pressive body of reference, as well as plugins that greatly extend the
functionality of Grasshopper to achieve varied, and vey specific, tas
ks.\nThis introduction to Grasshopper workshop will focus on an overvi
ew of the plug-in, geometry types and attributes, geometry constructio
n and transformation, and list and data tree structure and management.
Through lectures and hands on exercises, the participants will be abl
e to compose various geometry constructs that demonstrates variation a
nd transformation through their embedded adaptive logic.\n\nTopics Cov
ered\n\nHow to navigate the user interface.\nWhy design with algorithm
s?\nWhat is parametric design?\nHow to store and access data efficient
ly.\nHow to use attractor data to influence geometry construction/mani
pulation.\nWhat are the different geometry types in Grasshopper?\nEffi
cient implementation into a proposed design problem.\n\nAbout the Inst
ructors Jason King & Biayna Bogosian have nearly two decades of com
bined experience in architecture, design technology, and teaching. We
strive to make our workshops fun and informative, helping participants
integrate new design technologies into their workflows.\n\nFor more i
