SUMMARY:Encodedfields Polymorphism . Advanced Digital Design Workshop
DESCRIPTION:En{coded}fields. Polymorphism is an advanced design worksh
op in Florence, taught by Bogdan Zaha and Daniel Bolojan. Attendees wi
ll have the chance to go through a professional workflow that will com
bine diverse digital design methodologies and the use of different too
ls such as Autodesk Maya, Rhinoceros and Grasshopper.\nBuilding up tec
hnical skills will provide the attendees with a solid platform from wh
ich to start rethinking and exploring innovative architectural ideas i
n collaboration with the team and the tutors.\n\nURBAN FIELDS\nPhase I
\nIn the first part of the workshop attendees will be looking at field
conditions and how to generate and design such fields that can help s
tructure a possible urban condition in Florence.\nWe will be exploring
dynamic systems, geometric systems and network theories to generate a
nd design an abstract field condi- tion that extends the urban experie
nce of the city onto the vertical dimensions of towers. Simple operati
ons that would span variations from an initial state will give rise to
high level of com- plexity.\nThe goal of this exercise is to create a
rich and diversified intel- ligible urban space that can be later on
subjected to local inter- ventions and zooming in to locally enhance e
 ach design.\n\nAGENT - BODIES POLYMORPHISM\nPhase II\nThe second part
of the workshop will build upon first phase; par- ticipants will selec
t one archetype (high rise tower) as a study model for further develop
ment.\nBesides engaging with multi agent algorithms design strategies,
attendees will address strategic utilisation of structurally and envi
ronmentally generated morphologies to design coherent and highly diffe
rentiated tower exo-skeletons.\nTutors will introduce agent-bodies pol
ymorphism in order to explore the generation of structural aware and c
apable geom- etries through agent based formation of non-linear hierar
chies and emergent patterns. These agent-bodies will operate in a comp
lex spatial manner to form structure, partitions or enclo- sure and wi
ll operate across scales, creating a poly-scalar level of detail.\nAtt
endees will speculate how autonomous systems can cre- ate new structur
es and intelligent distribution of structural elements, about new coll
aborative strategies of construction and the performativity they will
 evoke (performance, effects, responsiveness, interaction).\n\nFees\nEa
