DESCRIPTION:The “Angewandte Architecture Challenge” is an architec
 ture summer school program in collaboration with international expert
 s and institutions. It is intended for architecture students intereste
 d in exploring integrated digital design and fabrication while simult
 aneously designing a full-scale built project within the teaching envi
 ronment of the Institute of Architecture at the University of Applied
  Arts in Vienna - “Die Angewandte”.\n\n\nAngewandte Architecture C
 hallenge 2014 - AAC14 Architectural Design at the “Angewandte” is 
 taught as an integrated, multidisciplinary process. Following this tra
 dition, the design process will be enriched with parametric design str
 ategies combining Grasshopper plugins such as the KARAMBA and OCTOPUS
  platforms. AAC14 is organized in collaboration with Hochschule Trier 
 and Bollinger + Grohmann Engineers. Specialists from the Institute of 
 Architecture and invited guest experts Robert Vierlinger, Robert Thum 
 and Peter Ortner will co-tutor the workshop. The handling of virtual 
 simulation methods and the engineering of full-scale structures using 
 digital manufacturing using polymer concrete will be a primary focus o
 f the workshop. This workshop will result not only in built structure
 s and environments, but will also inform and prepare interested studen
 ts for the Master of Architecture study program at the Institute of Ar
 chitecture. The entrance interviews for the MArch program, Architectur
 e Studios Greg Lynn, Zaha Hadid and Hani Rashid are scheduled for the
  same week at the Angewandte.\n\nFormat & Ambitions The Architecture C
 hallenge Program is organized as a 7-day, intense event. Software intr
 oduction to Rhino / Grasshopper / Karamba / Octopus will be followed b
 y a project design development in groups and daily reviews of the grou
 p projects. Selected projects will be fabricated using the latest rese
 arch findings in polymer concrete. The workshop will close with a fina
 l presentation with guests followed by an exhibition. Lectures by inte
 rnational experts will accompany the workshop. Ideal participants are 
 architecture students with a bias in Digital Design & Fabrication. Mat
 erials, working space and necessary fabrication equipment will be made
  available. You will need to bring your own laptop with Rhino and Gras
 shopper installed. Basic use of Rhino and Grasshopper is required, kn
 owledge of Karamba / Octopus is a plus, but not required.\n\n\n\n\n\nF
