SUMMARY:AA Visiting School, Tel Aviv July-August 2010
DESCRIPTION:BAD MESH & NAKED EDGES\n\nSun 25 July – Wed 4 August 201
0 David Azrieli School of Architecture Tel Aviv University\n\nAA CSI 2
010 is the second of three annual summer workshops focused on developi
ng innovative methods for synthesising drawing and 3D printing. Workin
g with Objet Geometries high resolution, multimaterial liquid 3D print
ing technology, participants will be involved in an intensive ten-day
programme of making and testing 2D, ‘thick 2D’ and 3D digital prin
ting techniques to invent architectural surfaces.\n\nThe workshop prog
ramme is inspired by British pioneers of art and architectural represe
ntation – Joseph Gandy, Robert Adam, James Stirling, David Hockney a
nd John Outram – and informed by Israel’s unique cultural heritage
of textiles and ceramics.\n\nThe workshop is the testing ground for A
A Intermediate Unit 9’s ongoing experiments to blur the boundary bet
ween drawing and 3D printing. The objet trouvé, exquisite corpse and
other Surrealist and Dadaist techniques form the basis for these inves
tigations.\n\nThe workshop’s objective is to deliver an atlas of pri
nts (working with measured drawings from non-architectural\ndiscipline
 s) from each participant (a ‘3D takeaway’) that they will incorpor
ate into future projects and\npublications, giving the workshop a wide
-ranging material and intellectual influence.\n\nParticipants will wor
k in at least two of four different AA-led design units over the ten d
ays.\n\nThe teaching staff also includes Eran Neuman and Aaron Spreche
r of Open Source Architecture, as well as Marco Ginex and Adam Nathani
el Furman of Madam Studio, and Arthur Mamou-Mani from the AA\n\nIn add
ition to advanced software tuition, there will be regular evening lect
ures (invited speakers include\nNeri Oxman and Erez Ella) and workshop
s including a hands-on working session with Objet Geometries\nchief so
ftware engineer, Yossi Abu.\n\nThe final jury will be a day-long prese
ntation/exhibition at the\nZeZeZe Gallery in the Tel Aviv port.\n\n\n-
