SUMMARY:AA SUMMER DLAB
DESCRIPTION:\nAA SUMMER DLAB :: WHITE\nArchitectural Association (AA)
School of Architecture\nLondon / Hooke Park, United Kingdom\n21 July â
€“ 08 August 2014\nSummer DLAB experiments with the integration of alg
orithmic / generative design methodologies and large scale digital fab
rication tools. Concepts of natural formations, emergence, differentia
tion, and complexity shape the theoretical framework of this investiga
tion. The programme is formulated as a two-phase process. During the in
itial phase participants benefit from the unique atmosphere of AA’s
London home. The second phase shifts to AA Hooke Park and revolves aro
und the fabrication and assembly of a full-scale architectural interve
ntion.\nProminent Features of the workshop\nTeaching team: Summer DLAB
tutors are selected from recent graduates / current tutors at the AA.
\nFacilities: AA London houses cutting-edge facilities with digital fa
brication techniques. The facilities at AA Hooke Park allow for the fa
brication of 1-1 scale prototypes.\nComputational skills: The toolset
of Summer DLAB includes but is not limited to Rhinoceros, Processing,
and Grasshopper.\nTheoretical understanding: The dissemination of fund
amental design techniques through theoretical sessions forms one of th
e major goals.\nProfessional awareness: Summer DLAB performs as a simu
lation of the professional environment due the priority given to team-
based design approach.\nFabrication: According to the specific agenda
of each year, a one-to-one scale prototype is fabricated and assembled
by design teams.\nLecture series: Taking advantage of its unique loca
tion, London, Summer DLAB creates a vibrant atmosphere with its intens
e lecture programme.\nFees\nThe AA Visiting School requires a fee of Â
£1900 per participant, which includes a £60 Visiting Membership fee.
Train tickets between London-Hooke Park, accommodation & food in Hooke
Park, and materials from Digital Prototyping Lab (DPL) are included i
n the fees.\nDiscounts\nThe AA offers discounts for participants wishi
ng to apply as a group. Please contact: visitingschool@aaschool.ac.uk\
