Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

This is a work in progress definition which I hope will create folded geometry from generic crease patterns using origami or kirigami. The input (for now) is the outline of the surface, valley folds, and mountain folds.

The definition uses a native bending force on each crease to initiate the fold. I'm trying to avoid using anchor points and other constraints to make the fold more uniform.

I'm hoping to eventually use Tomohiro Tachi's Origamizer to create a flat-packed crease pattern from any mesh geometry and then fold it in rhino using kangaroo. Any help from people doing similar studies would be much appreciated!

In the search of rendering a complex origami inspired design I'm looking for some CAD application that can do this but moreover also bends faces to make the folds possible. Yet this bended faces directed by the folds appear to be ultra complex to do. Any idea of a sollution?

Rita,

This discussion below should set you up with the overall idea.  Each crease pattern for now has a custom definition to get it to work.  I'm still developing a generic definition.

Would you mind sharing your definition?
