algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear all,

 

According to User Manual: cross section of beam elements relate to the line that connects the cross section centroid.

I am exploring Eccentricityofbeam-component to understand how Karamba works when position of loads and supports do not match.

Questions:

Are line loads get applied on centroids line or on original beam line?

I expect torsional moments in each section. This not occur. Why?

Support positions are related to centroids line or to original beam line?

Dear Leonardo,

the loads are drawn in a wrong position: they act on the eccentric beam axis. Eccentricities offset the beam centroid (and element loads) from the connection line between nodes.  Supports act directly at the nodes.

One question more about cross section-components: how can I create a steel C-profile?

Does Karamba take into account difference between centroid and center of torsion for open no-symmetrical profiles?

currently (Karamba 1.0.4) is based on the assumption that centroid and center of torsion of a profile coincide. Therefore profiles in Karamba need to be double symmetric. This excludes C-profiles. 

There is one exception: T-profiles are only symmetric about their local z-axis. When loaded in local y-direction, torsion due to the difference of the position of centroid and center of torsion is neglected.
