Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi
all, could somebody help me whit kangaroo settings

i have
this structure made of interactive connected beams,

wat i
want is to preserve the connectivity and structure of this beams( the lines
have to stay straight) after moving the top points, the problem is i didn´t
find the right settings for it( i hope thats possible),

the
best what i get was straight lines in top-wiew but in perspective or site-wiew
was the lines whit kinks( the lines have to be straight in all dimensions).have
somebody
any idea for the settings or other way to reach that ?

Thanks a lot for a help

Not the result your after, but possibly of interest to you anyway.

I've recently been enabling the Oasys GSA force density form finding solver to be utilized from Grasshopper, so I thought I'd post it's results for your model.  I haven't tested, but I've got a feeling your problem might be over constrained to keep all members straight.  Will see what others say.
I hope to enable this for other analysis programs shortly.
Cheers,
Jon

hi jon,

i have some problems whit ssi, if i open your file or try use the component ssiFF(form finding), get the component red and i can´t use it,

do i need grasshoper 8.0010 (now use 8.0009) or some others ssi tools, now structdraw and ssigsa,

and you have right, the problem is to keep all members connected and straight.

i need something what force the lines to be straight and the points stay on lines,

something like umbrella-principle,

the final lenght of lines and position of the points on the line it´s not too immportant( of course it´s important, but i want to keep the deformation small so that position of the points  on the line should not change dramatically)

but anyway thanks a lot to your help.

cheers mike

Hi Mike,

As you've noticed, you need additional software and licenses to access my definition, you need Oasys GSA (which should be free to students if you're university has an academic license) and you need to install my plugins from http://www.geometrygym.com/downloads (and run the rhino command sdrZZLicenseRequest).  GH0.8.0009 should be fine.

I haven't had time to think about keeping the members straight, but I'll give it some thought and keep an eye here if someone else advises on a way to do so.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon,

I have also some troubles running the ssiFF(form finding) component. I do have the proper licence for the gsa plug in, also a full educational licence for GSA. But if I try to use the component, there is given an error in the commandline it says someting about COM-classfactory for the component with CLSID {8A313280-31DA-4296-8A91-49ABF783E962} failed due to the following error: 80040154.

I´m not sure what I´m doing wrong. Can you help my solving this problem=

hi Jon ,

I have a problem also whit the script. I instaled all of the plugins but when I open the script I have this massage

what i should do?

Hi Dabanita,

See if the summary at http://www.geometrygym.com/installing helps explain the license request process.  Else send me a direct message and I will help.

Cheers,

Jon

Can you clarify the result you are after ?
Do you want the connections to slide along the rods?
Or is the whole thing supposed to form a pin-jointed mechanism ?

You can decrease the amount the rods bend by increasing the bending stiffness (if it becomes very high, you will need to reduce the timestep accordingly to keep it stable), though as Jon says, it looks like it might then not have any freedom to move at all.

If it is a question of sliding constraints, then I think this can be added without too much trouble

hi

the result i´m after schould be the same system as on start, connected straight lines and the connections have to slide along the rods, that means that the distance between the conections could to diversify and the lenght of the lines also= the connections are always point at line and the line is always straight

the end result schould be 2 or more this structures connected on the upper end points to something like a roof = 2 of this structures have to meet at 2 pointshere is a pics what i want

thanks for your help

hi daniel,

do you have some idea or tip for me, i have really no more ideas how to get it.

hello,
I hope you can help me, I'm fond of lately I'm using rhino and grasshopper, for my academic study at my university I'm trying to develop something similar to what you did it in this picture, I would like to develop the definition in order to build something similiar to what your samples, it would be possible to help me with the definition???
greetings and thanks.

hi, of course i could try.

what exactly you want to do?

the basic structure was (in my case) made whit some basic functions of Grasshopper in connection with galapagos, but give me some info what is exactly your plan.

thanks,
I want to do is a wooden deck for a community plaza using reciprocal frames in building freestanding structure (http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/reciprocal-systems) but over time I realized to achieve and to build ladefinicion take me a long time to develop it and since I have the experience and expertise discarding.
watching a structural system, I accommodates more my reality, and could definition based on a kangaroo adapted to achieve using such definition and using a CNC able to manufacture the elements assembled structure.
I also like what your structure is that apparently is armed with grasshopper so basic that way I can understand it in a better way so I could explain it better before my academics.
if you could help me with your definition would be great.
