Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Jon et al.- wondering if the Geometry Gym SAP2000 components (or generally) have compatibility with GH clusters? The application in mind is development of a number of SAP2000 section models from a single solid GH model... the definition for each SAP2000 section is essentially the same but for a few parameters, so assuming GG plays well with clusters I would build the model with a single cluster applied multiple times.

thanks

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the post.  Did you try clusters yet?

Unfortunately I believe the components often aren't compatible with clusters.  My plugin deviates from "typical" grasshopper user experience in that it collates the generated data in a background database, so that users don't have to wire every generating component into a single component to export/exchange the data.  This means I have to control the sequence of solution in a slightly different manner (ie the solve component needs to calculated last and not after some of the generating components).  A staged solution is used where particular components are temporarily disabled is used, and this seems to cause problems with clusters.

A recommended approach is to use a single set of components, but data trees to ensure the calculation operates on correct sets of data.  If you want to post or email a sample script, I can demonstrate this to you.

If anyone else has comments or suggestions on this, I look forward to hearing them.

Cheers,

Jon
