Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all, Using grass hopper I often encountered this problem:

setting the domain of a slider using variable numers.

For example: I have an angle between 2 segments which can change, and I'd like to have a slider that could slide only inside the domain 0 and that angle.

with the reparametrize domain node if I change the max number the position of the slider moves proportionally to the variation of the domain.

Is there a way to set a slider to behave like this?
if not it would be nice if in a future version of grasshopper there will be a slider with variable inputs.

Hello riccardo,

this has been asked a lot in the past. I am not sure if it is one of the things that David will introduce in gh2 though...

cheers,

nikos

As Nikos says this has been requested a lot (for good reason).

I still have my fingers crossed that GH2 will hopefully streamline a few of those areas in terms of UX and get rid of some of the special UI elements that can not be changed parametrically. The image sampler for example is another component that has a separate UI and no way to be fully parametric.

One quick and dirty "solution" would be to make a slider from 0-1, then use remap number and just display the resulting value in a panel underneath the slider.

thanks, i used this solution before, but is tricky and the valor that the slider point will change changing the domain boundaries. hopefully we will see this node in the gh2 :)

The Metahopper plug-in lets you do this.

Metahopper keeps solving so many problems that come up. Excellent!!

Here is an example:

ok, would you agree if there was a poll about the coolest grasshopper plugins, that the winner would be...Andrew Heumann?

let me use one of his writings

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
