User Object Version Naming

I was going to just add the version number as changes are made in the description. Does anyone have any tricks to keeping track of the most up to date user objects? We use the same definition as a template often for projects. Sometimes we have to go back to these projects and the user objects have been updated and saved as new to our folder. I'm guessing my only option is a code in the naming of these but I saw some VB/Honeybee components that have little tags at the bottom of the component with date and version. Anyone have any tips or tricks to staying organized? Thanks!
