Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

So I am in search of a new "machine" and for various frustrating reasons with the laptop market I am considering buying a MacBook Pro.

I'm sure a bunch of you already use this so I would love to hear your input.

I know GH2 will also be Mac compatible, there is also that very early GH for Mac version available (Explicit History), so there are chances that in a not so far future one could work with Rhino + Gh on a mac without it being a hassle.

What I am concerned about is the extended abilities of GH through the many valuable plugins available. I am also concerned about other software, that might be independent from Rhino or Grasshopper, but that can come in handy for our field of work.

Plese share your experience with Gh and apple products if you have the time..

Also, how cumbersome is atm using Rhino + Gh on Windows installed on a Macbook?

Thanks a lot for your time and input!

Well ... although you can't get a Puget machine from where you are sited I would strongly recommend to spend some time reading this, this and that:

https://www.pugetsystems.com/

PS: Personally I strongly discourage friends from using Laptops (Unless you should carry the thing on-site for some reason) for anything else than browsing - in fact not even for that.

PS: Additionally if (and when) your work demands some decent GPU power (the likes of a Kepler Quadro K4200 etc etc) ... well ... what exactly a Laptop can serve/do? What about ECC Ram and Xeon? (you tell me).

PS: If you can do it: buy the best components that your budget allows and build a proper machine at a fraction of the "official" cost (NEVER put critical data on SSD, get some WD RE/SE series:  good "trad" HD stuff, the best of the best).
