algorithmic modeling for Rhino

 I tried to create parametric equation of umbrella but it cannot be run, because R cannot be added  as 0 ≤ z ≤ R

x = x(φ,v) = [Rcosv + a(1 – sinv)|cosnφ|]cosφ,

y = y(φ,v) = [Rcosv + a(1 – sinv)|cosnφ|]sinφ, z = z(v) = Rsinv.

 where 0 ≤ z ≤ R; 0 ≤ φ ≤ 2π; 0 ≤ v ≤ π, δ = 1.

I don't quite understand what "because R cannot be added  as 0 ≤ z ≤ R" means, but you've entered the equation for Y wrong. It's the same as the equation for X, you need to replace the last Cos with a Sin.

Another thing I don't get is what cosn means in the screenshots you posted. Is it cos(n*phi) or some special kind of cosine?

In one of the last lines you have n specified as one of the equation parameters... I'm just not sure is it cos(n*phi) or cos(n) * phi...
