Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I need help desperately,

I am trying to make a definition that trims the text out of a surface. So far i managed to do it, but it takes so long for the definition to trim it. Is there a faster way to do it? The letters that i want to trim off, I did them on illustrator and imported them to rhino, then i placed them on the panels with flowalongsrf. Those are the letters I want to trim.

Is there a way to make this letters editable? like type anything i want while the definition trims it off from a surface?

Please help im new to grasshopper :(

I want to do something like the image I am attaching to this post.

First time seeing the FlowAlongSrf, cool command, I think you can do without grasshopper:

1 type the text in rhino

2 make a border around it

3 click the border type 'planarsrf' to createa surface

4 explode the text

5 select the exploded text, which are now curves, and the border from step 2 and use the planarsrf command again

6 make your surface using the two curves at top and bottom and a section. Use the sweep2 command

7 select your negative text surfaces and use the flowalongsrf command

maybe the scale of the text can be edited by the size of the surface or of the text but I bet you can figure that out! good luck!

Hello Wietse!

Thank you for your response,

However, my model is a bit more complicated (see image). Theres lots of letters I want to trim off the surface (technically a whole text), I dont know if a GH definition can make this happen more smoothly than rhino itself?

I had to move the letters a bit in the planar surface, so when i project them on the curvy surface the letters would be straight (as in parallel sentences to the floor).

Dear Marco,

Trimming/splitting surfaces is slow, you can google it for more info

www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/faster-split+&cd=1&hl=nl..." target="_blank">http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:c23wiy0_xv0J:www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/faster-split+&cd=1&hl=nl...

That's why I proposed the planarsrf method, I tried it with more text and indeed it's also quite slow, but it does work. You should maybe not do the whole text at once but make surfaces sentence by sentence, that way you can also have more control over the size.

but look, this works:

Thank youuuu soon much! it works perfectly!
