Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I am trying to figure out what would be the most efficient way to do a structural analysis of this building. Karamba is not an option, I have tried it, my model exceeds number of elements (my simplified model has 354)... I am currently looking into Robot Structural Analysis and SCIA Engineer.
Does anyone have experience regarding exporting Rhino/Grasshopper to softwares mentioned?
Any other plugin/software suggestions?

Help is greatly appreciated!

Hi s-sharky,

You can find plugins to enable export of structural analysis model data from Grasshopper to various applications here:

http://www.geometrygym.wordpress.com/downloads

Robot is supported, and popular as it's available free to students.  However it's api is very slow, so the data transfer takes a lot longer than interacting with various other software.

I have also recently started working on SCIA exchange.  There is a utility to convert Structural analysis IFC file data into SCIA, so this would be an option for you.  I do hope to release a Grasshopper to SCIA plugin before the end of the year (hopefully sooner).  The scia link would generate the model data, it wouldn't analyze and extract results back to Grasshopper.

Let me know if it's helpful,

Jon
