Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I want to design a building on grasshopper then use it on SAP2000.

I have problem with the import of the "shell" element (mesh). Anyone know how to solve the problem? Unfortunately I don't find solution.

Thanks to all,

Federico.

What formats can SAP2000 import?

.dxf but mesh are accepted only like Autocad "3D faces".

I saw this: https://wiki.csiamerica.com/display/sap2000/Import+Rhino+or+Grassho...

and this: https://wiki.csiamerica.com/display/sap2000/Import+DXF+into+SAP2000

I attached the gh

I assume you've seen the description of my tools on the first link you mention above. I've been developing a plugin to export model data to SAP2000 for over 4 years.

You can generate additional attributes such as material assignment, loads, restraints, releases etc etc that can not be easily conveyed in CAD formats such as DXF within Grasshopper.  You can also execute the solver and extract key results (in a numeric form) back to GH to use with optimization routines such as galapagos.

This will save you on having to generate and manage baking of mesh into the rhino document.

You can also generate area elements with polyline perimeters and mesh in SAP2000 which should be more optimal for the purpose of structural analysis.

If you haven't already tried and think it would be of interest, you can download from http://www.geometrygym.com/downloads

Cheers,

Jon

You have to write the dxf file saying to rhino that converts every mesh face into 3DFace entity. It's not a gh problem, but a Rhino export dialog thing. Just try to create a proper dxf export profile (I use to work with SAP2000 and I have no problem working with Rhino mesh models exported as dxf.

Ok, thanks. You're not the first to say this to me! Arrrrgh!!!

Perhaps I found the problem!

Are these (attach img) the correct settings?
